National Vietnam War Veterans Day
Flag Raising Ceremony
MOBILE, ALABAMA, March 28, 2026 – March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the United States. First observed in 2012, it honors the US military members who served during the Vietnam War (1955 – 1975)
The South Alabama Veterans Council will hold the Vietnam War Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War on Saturday, Mar 29, at USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, 2703 Battleship Memorial Parkway. The flag-raising will honor those Vietnam Veterans who came home and those who remain Missing in Action or Killed in Action, whose names are listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorials across America.
More than 58,318 names of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice are engraved in the black granite of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial,
also known as “the wall.”
How Can I Help Honor Welcome Home Vietnam War Veterans Day?
The first step is the simplest: find a veteran in your area and thank them for their service. You can also attend an event or ceremony near you to give thanks.
The Flag Raising will begin at 7:00 a.m., keynote speaker TBD
The Flag Raising Ceremony is free and open to the public.

Candlelight Ceremony to be held in honor of POW/MIA Recognition Day
September 18, 2026
MOBILE, ALABAMA, September 18, 2026 – USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park will host a POW/MIA Candlelight Ceremony on Friday evening, September 18, in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day. The ceremony will be held at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the park at 6:30 p.m. and will be conducted by the South Alabama Veterans Council.
The evening will include a POW/MIA Table Ceremony followed by the lighting of individual candles. The ceremony will honor those service men and women who were held captive and returned and those service men and women who still remain missing in action. Information on the POW/MIAs from the State of Alabama will be given to all attendees, along with information on National POW/MIA Recognition Day.
“Our Alabama POW/MIAs are important to us, and we all need to recognize them and their contribution to our freedom,” explained Lou Lartigue, president of the South Alabama Veterans Council. “We intend to recognize them on September 15. We invite everyone to join us for this event.”

The Parade of Flags – Battleship Memorial Park
3:00 pm - 4th-grade students from Mobile and Baldwin County schools will present the Parade of Flags. Music, celebration, essay contest- Best Essay winners and keynote speech by DYW of America.
CONCERT-
7:00 PM at the Battleship Alabama’s Aircraft Pavilion. Mobile Symphonic Pops, the event is free.
