South Alabama Veterans Council Plans

National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Flag Raising Ceremony

MOBILE, ALABAMA, Mar 29, 2025 – March 29 is National Vietnam War Veterans Day in the United States. First observed in 2012, it honors the US military members who served during the Vietnam War (1955 – 1975)

The South Alabama Veterans Council will hold the Vietnam War Veterans Day Flag Raising Ceremony in recognition of the 50thanniversary of the end of the Vietnam War on Saturday, Mar 29,  at USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park, 2703 Battleship Memorial Parkway.  The flag-raising will honor those Vietnam Veterans who came home and those who remain Missing in Action or Killed in Action,  whose names are listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorials across America.

More than 58,318 names of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice are engraved in the black granite of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, also known as “the wall.”

How Can I Help Honor Welcome Home Vietnam War Veterans Day?

The first step is the simplest: Find a veteran in your local area, and thank him or her for their service.  You can also attend an event or ceremony near you to give thanks.

The Flag Raising will begin at 7:00 a.m., keynote speaker Col Patrick Downing, US Army, (Retired).

The Flag Raising Ceremony is free of charge and the public is invited to attend.
